Which Ubuntu?

It has been released that Canonical will no longer be funding the Unity desktop for Ubuntu, and this has raised a lot of chatter within the various online communities, and also with new users. New users seem to be a little confused over Ubuntu and Ubuntu based operating systems, so I am going to try and compile a list of sorts here today.
As I have explained before, with some distributions you can choose different desktop distributions with linux operating systems. For instance, I am currently test driving KDE Neon, which uses the plasma desktop, Linux Mint is available with Cinnamon, KDE, XFCE and Mate desktops.
The Unity desktop has been the main feature for Ubuntu for some years now, but will be using the Gnome desktop as a standard replacement. But people don't realise that you can already get Ubuntu Gnome, and various other desktop versions, so if you fancy trying them out, you can download them for free. I'll supply links but you can always google them.

Ubuntu (Unity)
The standard, still available as 17.04 (16.04 LTS) with the Unity desktop until the release of 18.04, which may be as late as next spring.

Ubuntu (Gnome)

Ubuntu GNOME (formerly Ubuntu GNOME Remix) currently residing on my samsung notebook and is, as of yet, impressive. Available as 17.04 (16.04 LTS)

 Ubuntu (Mate)
Ubuntu Mate (pronounced martay) uses the Mate desktop, and I must admit that I rather like it. Ive had it on a notebook and a desktop, both performed well.
Available as 17.04, 16.10 (16.04 LTS)

Ubuntu (Budgie)
Ubuntu Budgie is a nice little distro that works well on laptops, traditional style with a modern feel and responsive.
Available as 17.04, 16.04.2 (budgie-remix)

Ubuntu (Kylin)

Aimed at the Chinese market. Dont speak chinese so haven't tried, but if you want to check it out heres a link

 Ubuntu (Studio)
This one never ceases to surprise. This is Ubuntu, which is loaded with software providing a full range of multimedia content creation applications for the production and editing of audio, graphics, video, photography and publishing. Thats right, a full studio editing suite, and its free.

The Rest of the family

There are also a ton of operating systems that use Ubuntu as a base but are O.S.'s in their own right, such as zorin and elementary.

Download, try or even install, and see what you think

Enjoy!
